Both Dorset and Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch (BCP) Councils declared a climate and ecological emergency in 2019. These declarations are based on the scientific evidence that we have around a decade to take the required action to prevent greenhouse gas emissions exceeding levels which scientists agree will lead to irreversible and catastrophic climate change.

Zero Carbon Dorset aims to develop a vision of what a zero carbon county would look like, assessing where we are now against each of the areas that need to be addressed, agreeing a goal for each and then, tracking progress, report back every year.

This foundation event will bring together individuals and organisations from the wider community including academia, local government, the public sector, businesses and campaigning organisations to consider the issues and potential solutions both new and existing.

This framework can then be developed to set out what we need to do in Dorset to address the climate emergency while ensuring the actions proposed do not further damage our sensitive ecology; all within the wider framework of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
