As part of an exciting new partnership with Springhead at Fontmell Magna, Sustainable Dorset will be launching a series of bimonthly Sustainable Sundays talks on 14th April (4 to 6pm) and we do hope you will be able to attend our first event. We are honoured to start with an exotic worldwide journey through some of Edward Parker’s sustainable forestry projects, illustrated with his own beautiful photographs.
Edward Parker, who is Executive Director of Springhead, is an acclaimed environmentalist, campaigner, educator, writer and photographer who has a passion for ancient trees, rainforest conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources. For more than 25 years he has travelled to more than 40 countries documenting not only the forests, wildlife and environmental devastation, but also created photographic essays on the way remote peoples live sustainably in some of the last great wildernesses such as the Amazon, Congo and Borneo rain forests. He has written more than 30 educational books (mainly on development issues and rainforest conservation) and co-authored and photographer of ‘Ancient Trees – trees that live for a thousand years’, ‘Photographing Trees’ and ‘Ancient Trees of the National Trust’.
Over the last 25 years he has worked with a wide variety of organisations relating to environmental education and the sustainable use of resources including Kew Gardens, Oxford Botanic Gardens, WWF International, The Tropical Forest Trust, The Woodland Trust, The National Trust, the Eden Project etc. He is a member of the Ancient Tree Forum and has been the Manager of the Springhead Trust at Fontmell Magna since 2013.
