Power Up Power Down: Dorset COP panel discussion

Dorset COP was the first-ever community led Conference Of the Parties in Dorset, uniting the local community in urgent action to combat climate change, it was held on Saturday the 9th Sept 2023 at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester. The carbon-neutral event featured a series of talks, workshops, short talks, panel discussions and break-out workshops for members of the 108 participant organisations.





During this talk the following speakers discussed decarbonising, solar and retrofitting Dorset.


Speakers:

Admiral Prof. Neil Morisetti Royal Navy retired, former diplomat including the government's Climate Energy Security Envoy and the Foreign Secretary's Special Representative for Climate Change, now at University College London as Professor of Climate and Resource Security.


Poppy Maltby head of Cities and Regions at Regen, which she joined in 2017. Regen is a not-for-profit center on energy expertise and market insight. She's an economist by training, and formerly worked for EDF looking after the local authorities and communities client's who were acting to address the climate emergency.


Rupert Hardy chair of Dorset Campaign to Protect Rural England where he leads on renewable energy in particular the utilisation of solar panels.



Zero Carbon Dorset (ZCD), Dorset Climate Action Network (Dorset CAN) and Sustainable Dorset , three of Dorset’s leading climate action groups, came together to organise this pioneering event, hoping to raise awareness of the need and desire to act locally, in a way that puts people at the heart of the climate crisis on a local level.
