Food & Agriculture

About 75% of Dorset's land is used for agriculture and Food production and the sector directly employs 5,974 local people. Our county's food and farming system has an exciting groundswell of producers, suppliers and procurers working towards a food and farming system that benefits the health of people, the land and our cultural connections to food. Why is this important? Local Futures put it perfectly '...because food is something everyone, everywhere, needs every day, which means that even small shifts in our food systems can have far-reaching benefits – environmentally, economically and socially.' By supporting Dorset's local producers who prioritise sustainable farming practices, you support Dorset's biodiversity, soil health, a better wage for local producers, your own health and so much more.
