Circular Economy

At present, Dorset generates 1.6 million tonnes of waste each year. Estimated trajectories predict this figure will continue to grow. Nearly half of Dorset’s waste is categorised as either construction, demolition, excavation or hazardous. And the remaining 52% (around 840,000 tonnes) is split between household waste and commercial & industrial waste. To reduce the carbon impact from Dorset's waste activities, creating a more sustainable and efficient circular economy is key. This means reducing the amount of waste Dorset produces by keeping resources in use for as long as possible, recovering and reusing products and materials wherever we can, and prioritising biodegradable materials.
