Biodiversity & Wildlife

Dorset's Landscape encompasses a breadth of unique ecosystems which support a complex web of biodiversity – chalk and limestone grassland; lowland heathland; ancient meadows and woodlands; coastal habitats; and maritime coast and cliff... to name just a few! Despite such a rich tapestry of ecosystems, over 400 land and freshwater species recorded in the past are now thought to be extinct, about 1 in 40 species (source).  In light of declining species numbers and habitats, Dorset communities are coming together to guardian ecosystems and repair habitats. By supporting these projects, you are ensuring a wild and resilient Dorset landscape for generations to come.
